St. Thomas Forane Church Mailacombu

St. Thomas Froane Church Mailacombu, The Mother Church of the East located in the Kumaramangalam Grama Panchayath of the Idukki district in Kerala. The Christian community in Mailacombu as tradition goes dates back to c.a. 600 AD. As tradition holds St. Thomas is said to have visited Mailacombu on its way to Tamil Nadu. From the Madakkathanam Junction which is on the Thodupuzha-Muvattupuzha road, the church is just two kilometers on the side of Madakkathanam-Mailacombu road. The parish territory is rather vast and is spread out in the district if Ernakulam and Idukki and the lion’s share belongs to the latter.

Maniyanthram Hill Shrine

Maniyanthram  Hill   Shrine,the  first  hill  shrine  in  the  diocese  of  Kothamangalam   attracts  thousands  of  devotees  every  Easter  season.  On first Sunday   after   Easter popularly known as Puthunjayar faithful from various parishes of the diocese go on pilgrimage to the hill top. The hillock is dedicated the St. Thomas , the Apostolate of India.

The parish community has a special devotion to the hill shrine. On every fortieth Friday (Friday Prior Good Friday) a procession lead from the parish saying “The way of the Cross” which concludes with penitential services at the hill top.
